Many Mothers

My Ancient Many Mothers (1st Piece in the Set)

The character comes upon circular shapes of arms and wisps of spirit. It is both eerie and alluring.

Voices of the ancient mothers call to her.

Artist’s Insight

In this design I wanted to create an abstract ghostly feel of spirit memories, like fragments of people from the past. The wispy fragments in this piece symbolize the loss of clarity in the historical record regarding the women of the past. The connected hands communicate the fact that their strength is still present, something we can gather and connect to.

My Many Mothers: Blazing (2nd Piece in the Set)

The character comes to the end of her growing awareness as she sees brilliant energies blazing in power and strength.

They reach out to her. Her own energy ignites.

She realizes she is one of them.

Artist’s Insight

This image represents my recent mothers: my own mother, her mother, her mother, and their mothers before them.

Each burst of light represents a specific person. The larger ones are more recent mothers of mine, and the faint flecks of light represent far off mothers whose names have been lost to time.

Of course, these mothers in my life are not limited to my biological ancestors.

The green light burst represents me, and the blue burst represents my daughter.
